Look After your Aide

What is Aide?
You can call it pet if you like. Since they can give buffs and other benefits.

This is a link for a complete list of aide you can have.

http://uwodbmirror.ivyro.net/eg/main.php?id=144

How does their skills work?
Depends on their skills.
  • If they have language(s) (they always have at least 1 language), u can use their language as your own language, and u can read from archives with it.
  • Some of their skills will give +1 to your skill. This will work only if you and your aide has the same skills.
  • They also has special skills that you cant learn, like obstruction. This skills are unique and really useful depends on your playing style and needs.
When can I have my aide?
  1. 1st aide you can have when you reached level 20 of any.
  2. 2nd aide when you reached level 40 of any
  3. 3rd, 4th, and 5th depends on your Quarters rank. Better Quarters will gives your aide place to rest I think. XD
Can I give my aide a ship?
  • Once your aide trust reached 50, you can choose only 1 aide as aide captain and give them a ship to use. This will give more benefits like, more cargo, or call them to aid you in battle.
  • Your aide will gain trust point when you sailing. However, I found out its not actually 30 days sailing will give you 1 trust point. Its more like higher trust point need longer sailing days. Or you can use item Proof of Trust, this will give 1 trust point for each.
How they levels?
  1. They gain 100% exp from anything you do. So if you got 100 trade exp, they will have it too.
  2. They also gain exp from sailing each day. Each duty gives different portion exp.
    • Navigation > 100% to adventure
    • Lookout > 50% adventure, 50% maritime
    • Storekeeper > 100% trade
    • Paymaster > 50% trade, 50% adventure
    • Lieutenant > 100% maritime
    • Surgeon > 50% maritime, 50% trade
Tips to grow your Aide traits better

Your aide has chance to grow all traits every time they level up.But how?
Example your aide has 50 surgeon trait, this mean your aide need to sail 50 days in that duty to raise the chance for it grow on the next level up. This is not easy, especialy if u want to see your aide has 100 traits for all job.

We can replace the sailing requirement using aide food, each aide food replace 5 days at sea. But, for 50 trait, that mean we need 10 aide food, that would be expensive.
There are 2 ways to do this:
  1. Every time your aide almost level up, you feed them until they full. How do we know they full? Easy, they will stop talking! XD
  2. 2nd way is, my way. ^^ I keep rolling my aide duty for every 2 days sailing (some players prefer 5 days at sea). When their traits still has ??? mark, I use the 1st way (feed them until they stop talking). When their traits still < 50, i give them 5 aide foods. When their traits > 50, i give them 10 aide foods.
Important thing, don't you ever use the bonus traits. If u use it, that mean they need more aide food.

When is the best time to use my aide bonus traits?
Use it to make all traits become 100 at once. Example:
  • Navigation 90
  • Lookout 95
  • Storekeeper 90
  • Paymaster 100
  • Lieutenant 80
  • Surgeon 100
You need 45 bonus trait to make all of the traits fully 100. so if you didnt have 45 bonus traits, keep it until next level up

Grinding Casting

Somehow casting favor for Spain, England, and Dutch. I'm not saying other nation can't learn casting, but you will have a hard time grinding this skill as another nation beside those 3.

Skills you need:
  • Casting
  • Mineral Trade
  • Wares Trade
  • Firearms Trade (Spain favored)
 Books you need:
  • Shipwright Basic - Casting Book (Antwerp, Groningen, Plymouth, Porto, Barcelona, Genoa, Pisa, Syracuse - Craft shop)
  • Metal Smelting Book (Lubeck - item shop)
  • Firearms Techniques (Ceuta, Barcelona - item shop)
  • Alloy Smelting Book (Dublin, invest 300.000)
  • Weapon Manufacturing Techniques (Barcelona, Groningen, invest 500.000)
We will skip R1, I recommend get a shipwright hammer for casting+1.

Rank 2 (Bergen or Beirut)
- Lumber > Spare Rudder (Shipwright Basic - Casting Book)

Rank 3 - 4 (Plymouth)
- Bronze > Bell of Withdrawal (Shipwright Basic - Casting Book)

Rank 5 - 6(Hamburg)
- Lead Ore > Lead (Metal Smelting Book)
- Iron Ore > Iron (Metal Smelting Book)
- Copper Ore > Copper (Metal Smelting Book)
- Iron + Coal > Cannon Shot (Firearms Techniques)

At rank 6, Spain start make use their Firearms skill and move to Barcelona, while other nation stay in Hamburg.
Spain has another advantage by selling musket to Algiers, this will give fame and profit.

Rank 6 - 7(Barcelona - Algiers)
- Gunpowder + Cannon Shot + Steel > Steel Cannonball (Shipwright Basic - Casting Book)
- Iron Ore > Iron (Metal Smelting Book)
- Copper Ore > Copper (Metal Smelting Book)
- Iron + Steel > Single Handed Sword (Weapon Manufacturing Techniques)

Rank 7 - 10 (Hamburg)
- Coal + Iron > Arquebuses (Firearms Technique)
- Copper Ore + Tin Ore > Bronze (Alloy Smelting Book)

Rank 8 (Barcelona - Algiers)
- Iron + Steel > Shamshirs (Weapon Manufacturing Techniques)

Rank 9 - 10 (Barcelona - Algiers)
- Iron + Steel > Two Handed Sword (Weapon Manufacturing Techniques)

Rank 11 (Hamburg)
- Coal + Iron > Cannon (Firearms Techniques)

Rank 11 (Barcelona - Algiers)
- Brass + Iron + Steel > European Armour (Weapon Manufacturing Techniques)

At rank 12, or 11+1, or 10+2, you may start producing Master Craftsman Carpentry Tools (MCCT / MCT) by collecting white ore in New Founland landing point, follow the right side until you see big white rock, then you can start collecting there. The problem is, you need to register a nearby colony which has iron and lumber in their market to make it efficient.

At rank 13, 12+1, 11+2, or even 10+3, you can start the devils way by making gold from gold dust. You can buy gold dust from Jamaica and Santiago (invest 120.000) and then invest 1.000.000 in Havana and you can use the recipe from craftsman.
You will need Handicrafts R5 and Metal Trade skills to do this, fortunately you can leech this from friend.
Keep in mind, if u have 100 gold dust, it will grow into 110 gold (might more if u have college skills on).
This is the fastest way to grind your Casting Skill.

Vertical vs Horizontal sail (updated 5th Oct 2013)

Before i start, i recommend to use this map because it has accurate wind direction.

Actually i wrote about this in my friend's Blog before, but i decide to write it again here.
I also use reference from real life physics about sail which i found out that this game applied it too. And I also use some reference from another sailing ship game.
As you can see in the map they have 2 wind, that's because this game has 2 season. So don't blame the wind when you feel they hate you so much and always giving you headwind.

I got a lecture from my friend about how sails work. So I dig more about sails using google off course :P. I hope this update give more accurate info.

Vertical Sail
I bet everyone say vertical is good against headwind, i would say no, vertical sail also loosing speed with headwind, but not as bad as horizontal sail. I prefer to say, vertical sail is really good with side wind. This picture will explain bout it.

Horizontal Sail
Does Horizontal sail good with tailwind, the answer still no, but it really good with tailwind coming from side. Confused? Me too... My English not very good to explain it, so I hope this picture will.

Vertical Sail + Horizontal Sail
Well, all ships in this game has both. Lets combine those picture into one, the result will be like this.

I remember I have seen in japan wiki about how this sail works, they have percentage depends on wind directions. This percentage effect will give various effect to vertical and horizontal.

Now with this knowledge I have, I always read the map before I set sail. I decide which route I should use and get the most of the wind along the way and use horizontal+ on my special equipment. Sometime I had bad routes that I can't avoid headwind. When I have trouble like this, I change my special equipment with vertical+.

I hope this unofficial trick will help you sail at best.

If you have reached R14, or R13+1, R12+2, or even R11+3, time to move to landing point north of Bergen. Don't forget to bring collection booster with you, you will need R4 collection to start.
Once you reach this landing point, move forward until you see big white rock, start collecting there.
